The 59th Welsh Chess Championship 2013
2013 WELSH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
Sponsored by "THE CO-OPERATIVE MEMBERSHIP"
Games can now be downloaded as one file (per section)
103 players travelled to the Park Inn Hotel, Cardiff North over the Easter weekend for the 59th Welsh Championships. This was not only the largest entry in this event in a long time, but also the first congress for many years to have over one hundred players.
32 players participated in the Championship including both 2012 joint champions Richard Jones and Tim Kett. As on many previous occasions the title was only decided in the final round with Richard Jones being crowned 2013 Welsh Champion.
The Open Major attracted players from all parts of Wales and England as well as Guernsey and two players from Australia! The winner of this section was Ian Thompson.
The Minor Championship also attracted a large entry with 28 entries. This section was also highly competitive with the section won by Mike Servini.
A full list of prize winners is given below.
We extend our grateful thanks to many:
- The Co-operative Membership for their continued sponsorship and Mr Brian Rees (Committee Member) for his presence with us on Saturday.
- The staff of the Park Inn Hotel for their help and support before and during the event.
- Mr Peter Purland, Chief Arbiter
- Mr John Thornton for his sterling work inputting all games so they are available for all to see and enjoy.
We now look forward to 2014 and the Diamond Jubilee Championships.
