Welsh players at the British Chess Championships 2016

A good number of Welsh players participated in this year’s British Chess Championships, held in Bournemouth Pavilion from 23 July until 6 August.

Successes include:

Imogen Camp winning the British Under 16 Champion Girl title and the British Under 15 Champion Girl For these successes, she was awarded the Roy Clues trophy (in both fields she scored 4.5/7, comming 4th in the under 16 section and joint 4th in the under 15s)


Chirag Guha and Ifan Rathbone Jones  comming 5th equal in the under 12s with 4.5/7, and Susanna Fraser coming joint 17th with 3.5/7

Ethung Chung comming 6th equal in the under 10s with 5/7 and Anna Boyle comming joint 13th with 4/7

Shayanna Sivarajasingam comming 6th equal in the under 15s with 4/7 

Chirag Guha comming 5th equal in the under 12s with 4.5/7

Venetia Sivarajasingam comming 6th equal in the under 11s with 4.5/7, and Hiya Ray comming joint 12th with 4/7

Tom Brown and Alexander Freeland comming joint 3rd in the Week One PM Open with 3.5/5

Alexander Freeland comming joint 5th in the weekend open with 3.5/5

Alex Bullen comming joint 1st in the week two AM open with 4/5, 8th in the open major with 6/11, and joint 3rd in the Week One AM Open with 3.5/5, 

Sarah Rowles for comming 3rd in the over 65, under 150 with 3.5/5 and joint 5th in the under 120 with 3.5/5

Andrew Camp comming joint 3rd in the U120 weekender with 3.5/5

Benjamin Jaberansari coming joint 9th in the under 8s with 4/6

Wyn Lewis coming joint 23th in the under 8s with 3.5/6

Ethan Chung coming joint 12th in the under 9s with 4/6

Scott Hammett coming joint 7th in the Rapidplay U120 with 5.5/11
